Stoney Vine Vineyard, Rocks AVA
Formed by the ancient bed of the Walla Walla River, this 17-acre Dusted Valley Estate vineyard sits at an elevation of 870 feet and lies on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley in the world famous Rocks District of the Milton Freewater AVA.
Planted in 2007, it is one of the best sites in the world for Syrah (along with other Rhone Varietals).
The vineyard is growing in the ancient Walla Walla River bed, which is made up predominantly of basalt cobbles that were washed down out of the Blue Mountains over eons. The Rocks shares its soil structure with only a couple of very rare and special regions - Châteauneuf-du-Pape + Hawkes Bay.
Our semi-carbonic Mataro, Spintronics, is from this iconic region.
